Above all, respect the studio as a sacred space. This is both for your benefit and the benefit of others.
How to Prepare for Your Yoga Class
- Be early to class.
- If you have a health issue (pregnancy, illness, injury or medical condition), please notify your instructor before class. Not every pose is appropriate for everyone.
- We are a hands on studio, if you prefer not to be adjusted physically please let your teacher know before class.
- Please stay for the entire class.
- Come to practice with an empty stomach (unless a specific condition prevents this).
- Try letting go of the competitive mindset. Yoga is noncompetitive. Yoga is not just a workout, or techniques for relaxation. The purpose of Yoga is to calm the mind, open the heart and stimulate your spiritual evolution.
- Attend your correct class level to ensure your comfort and that of the other students.
- Teens ages 14 and up are always welcome in any of our Yoga classes with or without parent.
How to Prepare for Your Meditation Class
- Please dress respectfully. If going straight from yoga to meditation bring a layer (for example, a skirt for ladies or long sleeved shirt for men).
- Refrain from facing the soles of your feet directly toward an altar or spiritual teacher. It is considered disrespectful.
- Don't place anything on an altars unless making an offering. Offerings are often flowers, sweets/food or money.
- Please stay for the entire class.
- If you have any questions or would like to find out more about the sacred art in the space feel free to ask any Chi-Town Shakti Instructor.
*No cell phones are permitted anywhere in the studio space.
Finally, most classes finish with the gesture and saying “Namaste”. This means: I honor the place in you which is of love, of truth, of light and of peace. When you are in that place in you and I am in that place in me, we are one. Namaste!
