Studio Guidelines
In an effort to help everyone have the best possible
experience in their Yoga classes we’ve put together a few
guidelines for our community. Please feel free to look
these over before heading to the center.
Before
you arrive:
Eat your last meal at least 2-3 hours before your class (4
is generally recommended). If you must eat, a glass of milk
is recommended or other light liquid that is easily
digestible.
Take a shower or bath to ensure you are fresh and clean and
fragrance-free for both your own comfort and the comfort of
those around you.
Leave anything that beeps at home or in your car. There is
great freedom in simply not having your phone with you.
Cell phones and pagers are not allowed in class.
Coming to the studio:
Above all, respect the studio as a sacred space. This is
for both your benefit and the benefit of the other yogis
and yoginis.
Please arrive 5-15 minutes early. Teachers are well within
their right to refuse late entry into any class. Allow
enough time to sign in and take care of payment
arrangements and paperwork before class begins.
Remove your shoes and place them in the provided area. Your
personal items may be left in the common space.
After using any props or equipment return them to where
they belong. Please tidy up if necessary.
Please let your teacher know if you have any injuries, are
pregnant, are taking medication or have a medical condition
before class begins.
If you have some water with you in class please keep it
tightly capped to avoid spilling. It is actually best not
to have any new liquid in the system during your practice.
Please refrain from unnecessary socializing during class
and speak softly in the front room while studios are in
use.
Work on your own mat and please allow the teacher to do any
adjustments or modifications for your fellow students.
Savasana (final relaxation) is considered the most
important pose in the entire practice of yoga. It is not
simply a rest, but it is an essential part of the practice.
If you must leave early, we recommend taking at least 5
minutes for your own savasana before the class enters group
savasana.
In order to preserve the experience for your fellow yogis
and yoginis please
never
leave during the group savasana.
If having a snack while at the center please respect our
vegetarian environment.
Do not place anything on an altar unless making an
offering. Offerings are often flowers, sweets/food or
money.
Never face the soles of your feet directly toward an altar.
It is considered disrespectful.
When coming to a meditation class or the Guru Gita please
dress respectfully. No jeans or tank-tops.
If you have any questions or would like to find out more
about the murtis (statues) and other objects in the space
feel free to ask any Chi-Town Shakti staff member!
It is customary to wash the hands with a few drops of rose
water before entering a sacred space. We have provided you
with a small pitcher of rose water by the sign-in sheet,
feel free to pour a few drops into your right hand and rub
the palms together while quietly repeating “shanti, shanti,
shanti” (peace) if you wish to share this custom.
