Class Descriptions

Advanced Hatha
This class is for the experienced yoga student who is exploring more advanced postures. This is not a class for beginners or people without a regular practice. You may expect a big backbend, an inversion, hand balances, or work with half and full lotus. As the instructor of the class Bhakti firmly believes that being an advanced student has little to do with what “cool tricks” you can do and much more to do with the internal work of yoga and an ability to modify, adjust and explore.

Basics
Getting started with yoga can be an intimidating experience but this class is designed to help you feel safe, comfortable and free to be at your own level of flexibility and strength. This class is designed to provide the new student with a foundational understanding of the postures of yoga. Basics is suitable for the beginning student or those who want a little extra explanation. The class tends towards simpler poses and focuses on the fundamental elements of physical yoga. It is more detailed, slower paced and gentler than other Hatha classes.

Gentle Yoga
This is a wonderful class if you're looking for a little more gentle nurturing class with an emphasis on elongating and stretching the body. Great for older students, recovering students, the inflexible and those who just want a little extra relaxation in their lives.

Hatha
Hatha is the umbrella term for all forms of physical yoga practice. At Chi-Town Shakti we practice Hatha in the Shambhava tradition which is a meditative form of yoga. Hatha classes are multi-level and appropriate for anyone at any level of their practice. The teacher will offer modifications and different ways to work deeply into the poses while encouraging body awareness and inner focus. Depending on the students in the class, the teacher may offer a range of challenge in the poses encouraging students to work into their physical yoga practice in a safe and explorative way.

Pre/ Post Natal

This class is designed to serve and prepare the expectant mother for the unique demands of childbirth. Postnatal students will share this class as an opportunity to deal with the new joys and demands of motherhood on the body, mind, and spirit. Pre/ Post Natal classes are a great opportunity for women to connect and share their own personal experiences. Appropriate at all stages of pregnancy. Doctors note of permission is required.

Sunrise Yoga
Sunrise yoga offers a great way to start the day, for those who love getting in a workout before the workday begins. The class may be a combination of both Hatha practice and some Vinyasa.

Vinyasa
With a quicker pace than Hatha, Vinyasa is a format that integrates the poses of yoga into a moving cycle. Due to the pace, this class is best suited to people with some previous experience with basic yoga postures. In our VInyasa classes we will emphasize the breath as the guide to flowing between different levels of postures, internal awareness and the practice of moving meditation.

Yoga for Young Adults
Yoga encourages body awareness, positive self-image, healthy lifestyle choices, mental discipline, strength and flexibility. This class is designed for the younger yogis, ages 9-15, looking to explore the wonders of physical yoga in an engaging and fun way. Students must be ready to laugh, move and explore in a fun and dynamic setting!
