One of the questions we frequently get is what you might expect from a typical training day. While the days differ based on the information we are covering, there is a basic rhythm you can expect. Each day of the training is connected by a “theme”, just like a “Hip Opening” yoga class may cover a lot of different kinds of poses, but each one is related to a common thread. We connect each of the day’s activities by interweaving a thematic element relevant to that day’s subjects. The theme might be physical, anatomical, or philosophical.

Here’s a sample of a training day:

10:00 - 11:00 Meditation: (We are very strict about punctuality. Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes before class begins to get settled.)
Yoga is so much more than the physical, and Shambhava™ Yoga Meditation techniques are often the most unexpected and cherished tools our trainees acquire. Without fail, at the end of each training our trainees comment on the benefit they received through regular practice of these tools throughout the training. Even if they had never meditated before! Our empowered practices teach you to facilitate an experience of yoga for your future students rich with a firm foundation in your own self-exploration.
11:00 am - 11:15 am: Break
11:15 - 12:30 pm Special Subjects:
This is the time we will explore ethical considerations, learn basic yoga philosophy through the Yoga Sutras and discuss issues related to teaching with depth and clarity.
12:30-1:00 Harmonizing Exercise: This can be a group chant/mantra, a getting to know your training peers activity, or an asana game. You may be surprised to discover that after many months and a deep inner journey together some of your fellow trainees may become some of your closest lifelong friends!
1:00 pm - 1:15 pm - Break
1:15 - 2:15 pm Special Subjects:
Some areas covered here are: Anatomy, Teaching Skills, Class Construction, Theme Development and much more.
2:15 - 3:15 pm Yoga Class + Practice Teaching: Yoga class taught by 1 of 4 trainers. As training progresses, trainees will practice teach their fellow trainees.
3:15 - 4:45 pm Asana Workshop + Teaching Skills:
This is the time in which we break down the poses learning the biomechanics, benefits, contraindications, breath, props, modifications and physical adjustments for each pose. Each week we either learn new content or review the content from the week before. As the training progresses, this also becomes time we develop more comprehensive skills such as theme development and class construction.
4:45 - 5:00 pm Culminating:
For the final 15 minutes of class, we review homework, address any questions from the day and end with a Gratitude meditation practice.
