Stephanie is a licensed clinical social worker who currently works as a psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of trauma and substance use disorders. Stephanie initially sought yoga as a way to continue expression through movement, after discontinuing her childhood love of ballet. As she increasingly noticed the benefits of spending time on the mat, Stephanie pursued yoga teacher training and continuing social work education about the overlap between nervous system regulation, mental health, trauma, and yoga.
Stephanie believes that we are only just beginning to understand the ubiquitous nature and long-lasting effects of trauma. After all, life is hard! Practically no one gets through it without experiencing something that threatens their sense of emotional or physical safety.
During this in-person workshop, Stephanie will give a brief overview of the vagus nerve and polyvagal theory. Then she’ll guide participants through the process of identifying their own nervous system states, and ways to regulate when feeling too overwhelmed. Finally, Stephanie will tie all of this theory together with the ancient wisdom of yoga philosophy and direct practice of yogic concepts. Participants will leave with a better understanding of the types of breathwork and asana that can help them achieve a greater sense of ease."
