Yin Yoga + Myofascial Release Workshop Series with Kathryn Norris of Lakeside Yin
(Choose to attend workshops individually or as a series)
Saturdays: June 14th, June 26th, July 19th and Aug 2nd
Time: 1:30 to 3 pm
These 90-minute workshops blend the stillness of Yin yoga with the supportive, grounding techniques of self-myofascial release (SMFR), moving between the two in a thoughtfully layered sequence. These modalities work in conversation: gentle self-massage techniques prepare the body's connective tissue and nervous system to receive the benefits of long-held Yin postures. The result is a practice that is as restorative as it is effective - deeply attuned to the body's innate intelligence.
We'll begin with SMFR (self-myofascial release) using simple tools like yoga blocks and therapy balls. These techniques gently stimulate the fascial system, supporting local circulation, tissue hydration, and sensory awareness. Myofascial release is followed by Yin yoga postures that target the same regions of the body, offering time, stillness, and gentle stress to the tissue to support mobility, release tension, and create inner spaciousness. This layered approach helps calm protective holding patterns, increases self-agency, and cultivates a sense of embodied trust. It also offers a kind of moving meditation, supporting emotional regulation and enhancing the body's readiness for sleep, rest, or deeper somatic practices.
What participants will gain from this series:
Embodied Myofascial Exploration - Learn to identify where and how sensation arises in Yin postures, developing somatic awareness and agency to refine your movement in all practices.
A Functional Approach to Asana - Move beyond a one-size-fits-all alignment model, exploring variations and prop support that enhance movement efficiency across different yoga styles.
The Mandala of Movement & Stillness - Experience the circular energetic flow of Prana, or Qi as energy is referred to in Chinese Medicine, through fascial pathways and energetic channels, aligning with Yin yoga's principles of time, stillness, and deep listening.
Integration & Self-Inquiry - Leave with a deeper understanding of how Yin yoga and somatic awareness can support all movement disciplines, from Vinyasa to strength-based training to daily movement patterns.
Living Resource - Workshop attendees will be provided with access to a webpage with a downloadable PDF for continued reference and integration.
A Consistent Seasonal Rhythm of Practice - Option to return throughout the Summer to explore stillness, connection, and support through cycles of rest and inquiry. This rhythm offers sustainable nourishment for the body, mind, and heart.
Audience:
Yin and Release is designed for every body. Whether you're an experienced mover, a long time yoga practitioner, or someone curious about slower practices, you'll find a welcoming space here.Yin yoga can sometimes feel intimidating - especially if you're used to more active classes or have tight muscles from running, strength training, or other high-intensity movement.
